CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Perform technical aspects of environmental monitoring, surveying, and inspection of campus. Provide service support for chemical waste disposal, fire protection, biohazard, and industrial hygiene safety.
BASIC FUNCTION
Perform routine work in hazardous chemical disposal, fire protection, general safety, and environmental sanitation.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under direct supervision perform a variety of routine duties in assigned environmental health and safety activities; e.g., operating field instruments, testing equipment, and processing chemical waste at various campus locations.
TYPICAL WORK
Perform routine field inspection and complete appropriate inspection reports;
Calibrate and operate portable field measuring instruments such as Geiger counter, mercury vapor detector, chlorine comparator, explosive gas detector, etc;
Monitor field inventory of hazardous substances, equipment, and practices on a continuing basis;
Demonstrate approved methods for proper application of fume hoods, respirators, chemical storage procedures, fire extinguishers, etc;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Classified Non-Union
Two years of college course work in science, mathematics, or engineering; OR trade school graduation in a related field; OR two years of apprentice work in technical trade.
