CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Perform daily updates to the KUOW websites and package news and promotional copy for online publishing. This is a single-class series.

BASIC FUNCTION

Prioritize and perform daily updates to the KUOW websites, with responsibility for packaging news and promotional copy for online publishing. Create webpages for special reports, organizational information and fundraising activities.

Establish and maintain website policy and style guides. Ensure information is accurate and informs the public of all programming provided on KUOW.org.

Work with KUOW Operations and NPR Digital Services staff to identify and resolve technical issues. Manage outside vendor schedules and relationships.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under the supervision of the Online Managing Editor, work with producers, station management and external producers to package news and promotional copy for online publishing. Copyedit and write to Associated Press (AP) and station standards. Create and edit graphics to support copy. Compress audio for online consumption.

Follow KUOW News Code of Ethics and Fair Use principles in producing content for KUOW websites. Pursue, obtain and manage permissions and licenses as necessary.

Create pages for special coverage, which may include creating graphics and mock-ups of page concepts; create fundraising pages for annual support and pledge drives; create and maintain organizational information for websites.

Work closely with news reporters and editors to create data visualization to support online reports.

Perform regular and systematic review of the KUOW website pages, in collaboration with management staff, to ensure the websites conform to federal, university, and station policies.

Respond on behalf of KUOW to queries relating to the KUOW websites and material contained therein.

Facilitate training and presentations of new web technology to station staff.

Manage and prioritize all material exchange (audio, digital and text files) and ensure appropriate weblinks to KUOW affiliates such as NPR, PRI, BBC, APM and others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be proficient in PC environment, Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver, or equivalent graphic and HTML editors, as well as proficient in HTML and CSS, and familiar with Javascript, PHP and MSSQL.

Must know Microsoft Access, SQL Server Management Studio Express, Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
