BASIC FUNCTION

Under general direction, conduct and score all types of sleep studies after being trained in scoring; provide an advanced level of technical expertise in sleep studies; program montages on sleep acquisition systems and troubleshoot acquisition and scoring program issues; and address issues affecting patient care delivery. Provide work direction to polysomnographic technicians and support staff.

TYPICAL WORK

Program montages on sleep acquisition systems; troubleshoot acquisition and scoring program issues;

Address environmental, equipment and engineering issues that affect patient care delivery; determine appropriate course of action including test cancellations and initiating system changes with manufacturer;

Provide oversight for sleep testing procedures provided in the home environment;

Assist with monitoring quality of the Sleep Center through appropriate audit systems in coordination with and as directed by management; collaborate with management to ensure operational needs are met;

Conduct and score all types of sleep studies including overnight polysomnography (multiple montages), MSLT, MWT, CPAP and Bi-level PAP titration, supplemental O2 titration, pH monitoring, and portable sleep studies;

Provide direction to staff; provide orientation and training to new employees to ensure competency as directed by management; provide on-site education of staff to meet current standards and practice guidelines as directed by management; adjust work schedules according to patient volumes;

May collaborate with management on special projects;

Perform the work of Polysomnographic Technician II;

Perform related duties as required.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT(S)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an AMA-approved school of respiratory care, electroencephalogram diagnostics or polysomnography

AND

Three years of experience conducting sleep studies in a patient care setting including one year scoring sleep studies

AND

Certified in CPR AND registered with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)

OR

Equivalent education/experience
