BASIC FUNCTION
Assess patients, plan, and implement occupational therapy; complete related documentation.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Single class – no series. Under general supervision, assess patient needs and confer with other staff to plan occupational therapy intervention as needed.
TYPICAL WORK
Evaluate and treat patients with a variety of physical and mental impairments to achieve maximum functional capacity;
Confer with medical and other staff members to determine occupational therapy program for individual patients; select situations or activities which require desired motions or actions or help modify behavior and teach the skills necessary to the activity;
Report data in both written and oral form following policies and procedures;
Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team and work with patient and family in developing treatment goals and evaluating patient progress;
Provide treatment and training to increase daily living skills;
Attend and participate in medical rounds and professional meetings with medical consultants;
Maintain service related records; adhere to documentation requirements for reimbursement purposes;
Evaluate and recommend modifications to community, home and work sites.
Adapt and fabricate basic orthotic devices and therapeutic equipment;
Recommend and issue occupational therapy materials and equipment;
Maintain a clean, safe working environment;
May provide work direction and instruction to occupational therapist students, occupational therapy assistants, and other personnel in the performance of therapeutic activities; and
Perform other duties as required.
LEGAL REQUIREMENT
Licensed by the state of Washington as an Occupational Therapist or has a valid limited permit issued by the state of Washington to practice occupational therapy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program and successful completion of American Occupational Therapy certification examination.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
