Typical Responsibilities
Exercises substantial responsibility for directing and controlling a program, supervises staff, and regularly performs professional level administration and management of a non-routine nature which requires independent judgment and decision making. Utilizes specialized knowledge of the specific program and has delegated decision making authority to allocate resources and establish policies, methods, procedures, and work rules for the program. Ensures program conforms to institutional and department policies and regulations.
Supervisory Responsibility
Positions must supervise at least 2.0 FTE. Supervisors have the authority to hire staff, evaluate job performance, and take corrective action if performance is not acceptable.
Overtime Eligibility
FLSA overtime status is based on the position’s duties and responsibilities, and whether or not the position’s gross salary is less than the federal FLSA salary basis test or the Washington state salary basis test, whichever is higher. Professional Staff Exemption
Program Direction/Control: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for directing or controlling program operations and who are accountable for the allocations of resources and program results.
Sample Working Titles
Working titles for this payroll title series tend to reflect the specific programs served. Examples include: Food Service Manager, Marketing Manager, Director of International Programs, Clinic Manager, Business Operations Manager.
Alternative Payroll Titles
If position does not regularly supervise 2.0 FTE, use Program Operations Specialist payroll title. If the position reports to an Executive Head, consider the “Manager” payroll title. For medical centers and health care-related organizations, consider Health Services Manager or Nurse Manager payroll titles if responsible for managing a patient care function with subordinate employees in direct/indirect patient care job titles.
Limitations
This position should not report to another position that uses the same Program Direction/Control exemption criteria if it shares responsibility for the same program.
