Academic Services – Director

Typical Responsibilities
Develops, plans, and administers an academic advising program. Recommends program changes or enhancements. Oversees all administrative aspects of the program including advising and outreach strategies, budget development, office management, records management, etc. Provides authoritative advice and consultation relating to academic advising programs to faculty, staff, and students. Supervises academic counselors and support staff providing program services. May work with faculty in curriculum planning and implementation.

Supervisory Responsibility
Supervision of staff is not required, but is commonly found at higher grades in the series. Supervisors have the authority to hire staff, evaluate job performance, and take corrective action if performance is not acceptable.

Overtime Eligibility
FLSA overtime status is based on the position’s duties and responsibilities, and whether or not the position’s gross salary is less than the federal FLSA salary basis test or the Washington state salary basis test, whichever is higher. Professional Staff Exemption
Counseling of Students: Individuals responsible for directing and/or participating in providing academic, athletic, career, medical, financial aid, student activity, and/or personal counseling to students.

Sample Working Titles
Director of Executive Education, Director First Year Program, Director of Residential and Student Life, Director of Counseling.

Alternative Payroll Titles
N/A

Limitations
At least 50% of a position’s time should be spent on directly counseling students or managing the counseling of students, or directing academic services or programs for students.
