CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Perform custodial assignments to maintain the cleanliness and care of UW Medicine hospitals and clinics.

BASIC FUNCTION

Perform custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of patient care and non-patient care areas of hospitals and clinics according to regulatory requirements.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, perform custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of patient care and non-patient care areas of hospitals and clinics according to regulatory requirements. This classification is distinguished from the Custodian classification by the adherence to safety and infection control protocols required in maintaining healthcare facilities.

TYPICAL WORK

Clean and disinfect patient care areas, surgical suites, offices, public areas, and other clinical rooms according to regulatory requirements;

Perform in-between case cleaning and terminal cleaning of surgical, obstetrical, and invasive procedure rooms, including flood mopping and disinfecting according to standard procedures;

Remove soiled linens, disinfect beds, and handle all types of waste (garbage, recycling, compost, regulated medical waste, hazardous and chemotherapy waste);

Sweep, mop, strip, wax, buff, and polish hard floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets;

Handle spill clean-up (bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and chemotherapy waste) according to standard procedures;

Clean and sanitize restrooms/shower rooms and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispensers;

Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of equipment, chemicals, precaution signs, safety data sheets, and standard operating guidelines; Communicate with patients, visitors, and staff, as needed;

Report need for repair and/or maintenance;

May lift or move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis;

May wash interior or accessible exterior windows;

May perform cleaning and related activities in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, or sweeping sidewalks or stairs;

May operate high-pressure washer;

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Physical ability to do required work.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
