BASIC FUNCTION
Perform a variety of complex tasks in support of the program specialty in health information management.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, perform a variety of complex projects and tasks in the specific program area. Make independent judgments of specific task related to the program specialty. Resolve problems and respond to inquiries that require specific knowledge of the program specialty.
TYPICAL WORK
Resolve problems and respond to inquiries regarding program area policies and procedures;
Maintain knowledge of a complex electronic and paper based information systems;
Serve as a contact person to provide accurate information concerning the program specialty; provide information relating to policies and procedures for the specific program and perform duties that interact with other staff members both internal and external to the medical center;
Handle technical and medical information in a variety of formats (paper, micrographic, and electronic) including assisting in the establishment, maintenance, filing, retrieval, and purging of information from both database and the patient records;
Determine the appropriateness of access to medical records and confidentiality, based upon policies and procedures of the program specialty;
Abstract information from patient records, for internal use;
Assist in monitoring the content of databases and individual patient records for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness;
Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduation or equivalent and two years of increasingly responsibility experience in a health care setting
OR
Equivalent education/experience.
