DEFINITION
Lead work of technicians and participate in the operation and maintenance of a radio and/or television facility or system.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of broadcast technicians and supportive personnel; and for performing specialized maintenance, repair, and construction work on highly complex radio and television facilities and/or broadcast/distribution systems.
TYPICAL WORK
Act as a working lead and install, maintain, and operate studios, control rooms and related television/radio systems and equipment;
Direct and operate equipment for remote control broadcasts and operate recording equipment;
Conduct performance tests on television and radio broadcast stations, as set forth in FCC Rules and Regulations;
Train and supervise student operators and technicians;
Provide technical assistance to production staff relating to equipment usage and limitations;
Assist in the development of plans to modify and expend existing radio/television facilities;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Classified Non-Union
Four years of full-time experience/training in radio or television broadcast technician work. First class Federal Communications Commission radio-telephone operator license may be required.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Examination Requirements
A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability, and other elements which are established through job analysis.
