Typical Responsibilities
Counsels or advises students and/or prospective students regarding course majors, career options, academic planning, degree requirements, interpretation of course major and graduation requirements, university and program admissions, or readmission requirements, and related matters. Evaluates applicants for admission to academic programs or specific courses of study. Works with other counselors to develop advising materials and/or counseling resources for students. Serves as lead on assigned advising activity.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervision of staff is not required; however, the position has lead responsibilities for an assigned advising activity.
Overtime Eligibility
FLSA overtime status is based on the position’s duties and responsibilities, and whether or not the position’s gross salary is less than the federal FLSA salary basis test or the Washington state salary basis test, whichever is higher. Professional Staff Exemption
Counseling of Students: Individuals responsible for directing and/or participating in providing academic, athletic, career, medical, financial aid, student activity, and/or personal counseling to students.

Limitations
At least 50% of a position’s time should be spent on directly counseling students or managing the counseling of students. These payroll titles are limited for use by counseling positions located in Mary Gates Hall only.
