CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the UW Libraries, utilize specialized knowledge to provide support in organizing, preserving and obtaining archival collections. This is a single-class, stand-alone series.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, exercise responsibility for working with all aspects of the collections including: providing reference and instruction, collection and item level description and organization, assistance with reproductions, coordinating preservation, and working with donors.

TYPICAL WORK

Set priorities for the intake, accessioning, and processing of collections;

Work with donors on new items for collection;

Responsible for preserving the original material in consultation with Preservation and Conservation staff; material could include paper documents, photographs, maps, films, computer records or other;

Provide professional, technical, and subject-specific expertise and support to public services staff, researchers, and other department staff through reference guidance and consultation, and outreach through consultation and instruction presentations;

Coordinate use of collections for fundraising, open-house and special events; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree with an archival focus or a domain specific field, and 1 year of archival work experience

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
