CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation (IHME), provide support of IHME global and national population health research activities, related through the development, implementation, and management of proposals for competitive grants, contracts and employment recruitments.

BASIC FUNCTION

Support and coordinate the development, implementation and management of proposals for competitive grants and contracts.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under direct supervision, support and coordinate identification, assessment, and securing of new funding streams to support IHME’s global health research, internal and external training, recruitment, and public information activities.

TYPICAL WORK

Coordinate, track and support efforts of IHME researchers and staff involved in grant proposal development;

Identify, document, and track potential funding opportunities through regular review of external grant proposal requirements and internal funding plans;

Research potential funding opportunities to make recommendations on potential proposal development projects;

Advise IHME staff regarding University of Washington and IHME sponsored research regulations and procedures, to ensure compliance and to support processes for proposal review, renewal and submission;

Assist faculty and research team members and translate broad research ideas into demonstrable hypotheses that can be included in the research proposals;

Write and edit components of grant proposals, develop work plans, and help prepare budgets for implementation of new research projects;

Track and manage research grant proposals, to include creating grant proposal templates, developing and updating proposal calendars and checklists, reviewing timelines with proposal contributors, and ensuring that key deadlines are reached in a timely manner;

Prepare summary documents that interpret and assess proposal development opportunities for consideration by IHME faculty and leadership;

Manage processes for archiving and maintaining proposal documentation and resources. Make materials available to faculty, researchers, and other staff as necessary;

Research, interpret, and analyze potential collaborator or funder interests in order to help create appropriate scope of work memorandums, letters of support, and other requisite materials;

Recommend improvements to current grant proposal processes and templates;

May assist with proposal development training for faculty, research managers, and other key staff; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a Science or Social Science discipline or related and two years of related experience

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
