CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation (IHME), manage the intake, storage, cataloging and citation of data sourced from platforms such as health surveys, censuses, medical facility records, vital registration systems and administrative data systems, for research teams.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide support to research teams by cataloging and indexing health data from a variety of sources and contribute to the cataloguing of health surveys, censuses, vital statistics, and other health-related data.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, seek, catalogue, and organize large amounts of health data and utilize a variety of filing systems to maintain health and demographic data and data sets formatted in applications such as but not limited to Word or EXCEL or in formats such as Comma-Separated Values (CSV), American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) and Portable Document Format (PDF).

TYPICAL WORK

Receive, organize, catalog and/or index large amounts of health and demographic data, from a variety of data sources;

Select and apply information management best practices utilizing internal data cataloging guidelines;

Organize large amounts of data by moving and renaming files based on detailed guidelines;

Organize and catalog data in content management systems such as but not limited to FileBoss, Stat/Transfer, and BeyondCompare;

Work with research teams to on intake and cataloguing of health and demographic date;

Identify and document datasets that do not conform to exiting IHME rules and report findings to supervisor and/or other higher-level administrator;

Conduct research to validate and/or identify metadata for datasets;

Identify, research and eliminate inconsistencies in metadata;

Document file management and cataloguing processes; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Library Science, Information Management, or Science Data Management and two years of related experience

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
