CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Develop and produce stories and their essential elements. Key aspects of production include creating the pitch, script, tone, audio and/or video components for KUOW programming. Generate audio, print, or video content that will be seen and heard across various KUOW platforms, such as broadcast, web, social media, and podcasts.
This is the fourth level of a four-level series; the preceding level is Producer 3.
BASIC FUNCTION
Lead production for KUOW programming. Demonstrate advanced skills and expert knowledge of a broad range of production components. Assist in managing the editorial process and strategically planning for long-term and special coverage. Serve as a subject matter expert for the production team.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Work under minimal direction to lead podcast or broadcast programs. Independently perform all aspects of production with expert knowledge of the subject matter. Assist in managing the editorial process and determining strategic priorities. Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others on the production team. Handle complex issues and problems and refer only the most unusual issues to higher-level staff.
TYPICAL WORK
Develop strategic plans in alignment with short- and long-term KUOW editorial priorities.
Lead editing and production KUOW programs.
Direct and mentor production team in the delivery of segments and long-form shows, regularly assigning, instructing and checking the work of others.
Responsible for editing, rewriting, and reviewing content by reporters and producers for KUOW programming.
Independently develop pitches and conduct research for special coverage or a series.
Perform duties of a Producer 1, 2 and 3.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and four years of professional journalism experience.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION
Public Information: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for planning and directing the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the institution’s programs, accomplishments, and point of view. Individuals exercise discretion in determining content of written copy. Other duties may include creating ideas, laying out artwork, contacting media representatives, and representing the institution directly before the general public.

02/01/2026: New Class as negotiated with SAG-AFTRA to expand for use beyond Drivetime program.
