CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Operate an audio board at KUOW radio.
This is a single-class series.
BASIC FUNCTION
Operate audio board including managing automation systems.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Work under general supervision to serve as technical on-air engineer managing broadcast board operations.
TYPICAL WORK
Serve as both technical and on-air engineer for assigned live shift, managing broadcast board operation.
Operate multiple computers using broadcast software and playback systems.
Monitor KUOW communications and newswires, NPR and other sources for updates to programs, breaking news and technical issues.
Monitor social media feeds, changing traffic and weather, and provide updates to senior staff.
Provide production support including, but not limited to, screening and connecting public audience calls for on-air interviews and assisting with preparing acquired programs for broadcast during on-air fundraising drives.
Assist with distribution systems using broadcast and satellite distribution software in conjunction with broadcast playback and automation software and systems.
Back up other shifts when needed.
Make basic on-air announcements such as weather, time, emergency alerts, etc. when host is not available.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience including audio engineering or production.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION
Public Information: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for planning and directing the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the institution’s programs, accomplishments, and point of view. Individuals exercise discretion in determining content of written copy. Other duties may include creating ideas, laying out artwork, contacting media representatives, and representing the institution directly before the general public.
