CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Provide technical operational production and facilities support for KUOW programming.

This is a single-class series.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide technical operational support for facilities and radio production.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Work under general direction to manage all technical aspects of live events for KUOW and for other public radio entities where production involves Puget Sound Public Radio or its facilities. Provide technical production support for local radio programming, including in-studio, remote production and live broadcasts along with archival support for fundraising and promotional programming. Co-manage audio production chains including satellite and transmission equipment. Serve as primary contact for facility maintenance and needs. Provide staff training as needed for local radio productions.

TYPICAL WORK

Provide technical production support for local radio programming, including in-studio, remote production and live broadcasts along with archival support for fundraising and promotional programming.

Coordinate radio production, studio and general broadcast training for staff during transitions and regular refreshers for designated super users.

Assist in the creation and maintenance of documentation for emergency activities, broadcast maintenance and audio production.

Coordinate the maintenance, repair and modifications of facility systems.

Serve as lead for the creation and maintenance of documentation for all facility related systems and equipment.

Assist teams with program distribution, audio archives, satellite distribution feeds, rotation of current recorded programs, and program-based messaging and alert distribution.

As part of the operations team, contribute suggestions about systems to select and integrate.

Serve as point person and coordinate with other University departments for building repair and maintenance.

May be called in for operational troubleshooting for broadcast and production system problems.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in broadcast production operations, including operating systems, computer-based multi-media programming, digital audio production and/or distribution systems.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION

Public Information: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for planning and directing the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the institution’s programs, accomplishments, and point of view. Individuals exercise discretion in determining content of written copy. Other duties may include creating ideas, laying out artwork, contacting media representatives, and representing the institution directly before the general public.
