CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Provide daily updates to KUOW digital content in alignment with the station’s editorial objectives. Collaborate with staff to edit and adapt journalism for our digital platforms.

This is the second level of a two-level series; the preceding level is Digital Editor/Reporter 1.

BASIC FUNCTION

Adapt KUOW content for digital platforms. Collaborate with staff to edit, package and enhance journalism for digital publication. Pitch and report breaking news and feature stories. Produce and publish digital content on a broad range of assignments.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Work under general direction to edit and/or create digital content that aligns with KUOW’s journalistic standards and enhances digital presentation. Collaborate with staff to adapt stories for digital audiences. Independently produce digital content on a wide range of topics. Make moderately complex editorial decisions and refer high-level editorial or strategic decisions to senior staff.

TYPICAL WORK

Collaborate with KUOW staff to edit content and adapt journalism for digital platforms.

Prepare and publish digital journalism that aligns with station design standards, incorporating multimedia elements, interactive tools, data visualizations, and emerging technologies.

Coordinate with programming staff to schedule and publish multimedia features.

Produce enterprise news reports for digital publication.

Cover and report on a wide range of assignments – break stories.

Maintain and cultivate a wide variety of sources.

Post breaking news and developing stories.

Monitor and identify local news trends daily to create relevant original digital content.

Grow and engage digital audiences by interacting and adapting to published journalism.

Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices for digital journalism and provide training to station staff.

Perform duties of Digital Editor/Reporter 1.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional journalism experience.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION

Public Information: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for planning and directing the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the institution’s programs, accomplishments, and point of view. Individuals exercise discretion in determining content of written copy. Other duties may include creating ideas, laying out artwork, contacting media representatives, and representing the institution directly before the general public.
