UW & SEIU 925 Continuum College Negotiations Recap for October 8, 2025
Background
This recap details the eighteenth session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between SEIU 925-Continuum College and UW. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.
SEIU 925- Continuum College Counter Proposals
Article – Health and Safety
In response to the Employer, the Union proposed to add sections regarding access to wellness rooms, first aid and evacuation kits, instituting required Fire Safety, Evacuation and Active Shooter training resources for all organizational units. The Union also proposed adding language regarding inclement weather and climate safety.
Article – Management Rights and Responsibilities
In response to the Employer, the Union proposed to remove who does the teaching, from the list of the Employer’s rights under this article.
Article – Mandatory Subjects
In response to the Employer, the Union proposed to lower the Union proposed timeline for the Union to demand to bargain changes and the subsequent scheduling of the demand to bargain meeting from 60 calendar days to 30 calendar days. The Union proposed if the union makes a request for information at the same time as the request to bargain, the thirty (30) calendar days would not begin until the information request has been fulfilled.
Article – Transportation, Travel, and Commute Reduction
In response to the Employer, the Union proposed to combine the Travel Pay and Work Time article and the Transportation, Travel, and Commute Reduction article into one Commute and Travel article. The Union proposed to add reference to APS 70.2 and include links to various travel related websites.
UW – Counter Proposals
Article – Health and Safety
In response to the Union, the Employer proposed language that if a supervisor, Labor and Industries or Environmental Health and Safety declares a University work site to be hazardous and unfit for work, operations would be suspended in accordance with the article regarding Inclement Weather and Suspended Operations. The Employer agreed to Union proposed language regarding access to Wellness Rooms and Fire Safety, Evacuation, and Active Shooter Trainings.
Article – Hiring, Promotion, and Transfer
In response to the Union, the Employer proposed to raise the timeline for employees who are not staying in the position they moved into to have the option to revert to their former position if it is still vacant or be placed on the rehire list from one month to 35 calendar days.
Article – Hours of Work
In response to the Union, the Employer proposed to add language that the Employer would provide no less than fourteen calendar days’ advance written notice to an employee in the event of an Employer-directed permanent change to the employee’s regular work schedule. The Employer also proposed language around rest periods and unpaid meal periods.
Article – Transportation, Travel, and Commute Reduction
In response to the Union, the Employer proposed to add “other dependent care facility” to the list of places that UW Transportation Services would reimburse for up to 100 percent of a metered taxi or ride hail fare (tip not included), up to 60 miles per one-way trip to the employee’s home, park & ride, daycare or hospital.
Tentative Agreements
Article – New Employee Orientation
The parties reached agreement on an article that matches much to the same titled article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. New language was added that a NEO, either online or in person, will be included on an employee’s onboarding agenda or checklist.
Next Steps
The next UW & SEIU Continuum College bargaining session is scheduled for October 16, 2025, and will be held virtually.
