Labor Relations

Union outreach to faculty and staff

UW faculty and staff may be approached by individuals seeking to discuss potential unionization. These interactions may occur on campus or, in some cases, at employees’ homes.

Union representatives have the right to be on campus to engage in organizing activity, provided their conduct is not disruptive to University operations. The University does not share employee home addresses or personal contact information with unions, though unions may use publicly available sources to contact employees.

Participation in any conversation about unionization is entirely voluntary. Employees have the right to choose whether or not to engage. If an employee feels uncomfortable about the time, place, or manner of an interaction, they are encouraged to make their preferences known directly to the individual initiating contact.

Supervisors and administrators should remain neutral in all organizing matters. Questions about appropriate conduct or boundaries can be directed to Labor Relations.
