UW – SEIU 1199 Negotiations Recap for June 1, 2017

Background

This recap details the second session for the renewal of the Research / Hall Health Registered Nurse Addendum of the collective bargaining agreement between the UW and SEIU 1199. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.

SEIU 1199 Proposals

The union maintained its proposals introduced at the main UW and SEIU 199 bargaining negotiations for all provisions also included in the Research / Hall Health Registered Nurse Addendum.

Work Schedules – SEIU 1199 maintained its proposal to retain current contract language that would require mutual acceptance for other work schedules to be instituted in the future.

Educational and Professional Development – The parties reached a verbal tentative agreement to grant ARNPs and ARNP leads who have completed probation, sixty-four hours per fiscal year of educational and/or professional leave.  The employer would provide $1,800 per fiscal year in education support funds for all ARNPs and ARNP leads.

Committees – The parties reached a verbal tentative agreement on language stating that committee meetings would be scheduled as needed and removing language that would require JLMs to occur within thirty days of a meeting request.

Pay Scale Adjustments – SEIU 1199 maintained its proposal to place ARNPs and ARNP Leads step for step on pay table BQ.

The union maintained its proposal requesting review of placement of several identified research nurses on the pay scale so that pay is more commensurate with experience.

UW Proposals

UW maintained the entirety of its proposals introduced at the main UW and SEIU 199 bargaining negotiations for all provisions also included in the Research / Hall Health Registered Nurse Addendum.

MOU: Hours of Operation – In response to SEIU 1199’s proposal, UW proposed a compromise that would involve retaining current contract language regarding mutual acceptance of work schedule changes, and incorporate a new MOU stating that the parties would discuss potential impacts resulting from Hall Health clinic hour changes, and subsequent implementation.

Pay Scale Adjustments – In response to SEIU 1199’s proposal, UW agreed to place ARNPs and ARNP Leads step for step on pay table BQ.

In response to SEIU 1199’s proposal, UW proposed to review placement of all research nurses on the pay scale, acknowledging this may result in pay scale movement increases for some employees, and decreases for others.
