As of June 19, 2017, the current UW payroll system (HEPPS; OPUS) and other legacy systems, including Employee Self Service (ESS) and OWLS, will no longer accept edits and will be converted to read-only in preparation for Workday go-live. Pay during FMLA leave

FMLA leave is unpaid unless you use one or more of your accrued paid leave options while out on leave. Possible pay continuation options include:

  • Sick leave
  • Annual (vacation) leave
  • Personal holiday
  • Compensatory time
  • Holiday credit
  • Discretionary leave

You may also have the option to take leave without pay.

If you are contract classified, check your collective bargaining agreement to determine if you must use types of paid leave in a particular order.

Shared leave

If you don’t have enough accrued paid leave, you may qualify for the Shared Leave Program. Criteria for shared leave eligibility are different than those for FMLA.
