Working with UTemp

UTemp Staffing is the University of Washington’s source for contingent and short-term staffing. Like private agencies, UTemp recruits and screens applicants, connects qualified candidates with temporary work opportunities, onboards and offboards temporary employees, and supports employee relations and performance needs.

As a self-sustaining unit, UTemp charges fees for its services that are comparable to—and in many cases lower than—those charged by external temporary staffing agencies. Our aim is to break even, and not make a profit, so we can keep our rates as low as possible.

Effective August 18, 2025, UTemp charges a $3.75/hour service fee. Learn more about UTemp’s fee structure.

Fast facts

Each year our highly experienced recruiters fill hundreds of orders and our temps work thousands of hours. From 2022–2024:

  • We filled 1,423 temp orders.
  • Our temps worked 942,528 hours at the UW.
