UW & SEIU 925 Continuum College Negotiations Recap for November 5, 2025
Background
This recap details the twenty first session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between SEIU 925-Continuum College and UW. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.
SEIU 925- Continuum College Counter Proposals
Article: Layoff, Seniority, Rehire
In response to the Employer, the Union reasserted that the Employer would notify the Union about which positions would be abolished and the employee(s) affected at least forty-five (45) days in advance.
UW – Counter Proposals
Employer Package Proposal
The Employer presented a package proposal in which all provisions would need to be accepted in their entirety. Package highlights are outlined below:
- Article: Commute and Travel – In this package proposal, the Employer accepts the Union’s counter proposal from October 30, 2025
- Article: Contracting – In this package proposal, the Employer accepts the Union’s counter proposal from October 30, 2025.
- Article: Mandatory Subjects – In this package proposal, the Union would accept the Employer’s counter proposal regarding Mandatory Subjects. In response to the Union, the Employer proposed that existing practices not contained in this contract which have a bearing on employee wages, hours, or working conditions would not be modified or eliminated without the Employer satisfying its collective bargaining obligations by providing reasonable notice and opportunity to bargain. The Employer also accepted the Union proposed language that up to three (3) employee representatives would be granted release time, under the condition that their absence would not interfere with the operating needs of the Employer.
Article: Overtime
In response to the Union, the Employer proposed that overtime exempt employees would consult with their supervisors to adjust work hours to accommodate the appropriate balance between extended work time and offsetting time. The Employer also proposed an occasional supervisor-approved, partial-day absence does not require the use of paid time off.
Tentative Agreements
Article: Hiring, Promotions And Transfers
The parties reached agreement on an article that matches much to the same titled article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. New language was added that the Employer will provide all employees notice via email when applications are being accepted for a vacant bargaining unit position.
Article: Miscellaneous Leave
The parties reached agreement on an article that matches much to the same titled article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract.
Next Steps
The next UW & SEIU Continuum College bargaining session is scheduled for November 17, 2025, and will be held in person.
