UW & SEIU 925 Continuum College Negotiations Recap for July 11th 2025
Background
This recap details the eleventh session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between SEIU 925-Continuum College and UW. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.
SEIU 925- Continuum College Initial Proposals
Article – Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. The Union also proposed language that acknowledges that federal courts have currently blocked key provisions of Executive Order 14173 that limit or eliminate DEI programs in the workplace but employees agree to exercise their right to continue to participate, organize or advocate for DEIB programming until the University of Washington is mandated to fully comply. The Union proposed language that Continuum College would create a standardized annual DEIB budget and would provide quarterly training for all faculty and staff with the purpose of assessing progress and workplace climate.
Article – Personal Services

Article – Travel Pay and Work Time
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 contract.
Article – Represented Limited Term Hourly Employees
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925- Libraries contract.
Article – Artificial Intelligence
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 contract. The Union also proposed the use of AI would not be utilized by Continuum pro-staff employees to complete work that would otherwise be performed by employees in a different job profile and AI would not be used to supplant the work done by the Continuum College bargaining unit.
Article – Reasonable Accommodation of Employees with Disabilities
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. The Union proposed new language to make the process more transparent.
Article – Workplace Behavior
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925- Libraries contract.
New Appendix – Code of Conduct
In conjunction with the article regarding Workplace Behavior the Union proposed an appendix that matches much of the same language from the UW Medicine – Policy on Professional Conduct.
Article – Professional Development
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925- Libraries contract. The Union also proposed Continuum would make unoccupied enrollment slots in courses available to Continuum staff as auditing courses when the course reaches the registration deadline.
Article – Shared Leave
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 contract.
UW – Counter Proposals
Article – Classification and Reclassification
In response to the Union, the Employer proposed to change references to classification to job profile. The Employer also proposed to list out the reasons a job would be exempt from being in the bargaining unit.
Article – Contracting
In response to the Union, the Employer proposed that the University would provide the Union 15 calendar days’ notice prior to the implementation of any contract allowed under this article, there may be emergency or mandated conditions that are outside of the Employer’s control requiring immediate implementation, and this article would not apply to the renewal of any contracts in place on the date of certification or ratification.
Article – Exit Interviews
In response to the Union, the Employer proposed to strike the section regarding confidentiality of individual responses in exit interviews and the section regarding Union notice when an a bargaining unit employee resigns.
Next Steps
The next UW & SEIU Continuum College bargaining session is scheduled for July 16, 2025 and will be held in person.
