UW & SEIU 925 Continuum College Negotiations Recap for June 4th 2025

Background

This recap details the tenth session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between SEIU 925-Continuum College and UW. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.

SEIU 925- Continuum College Initial Proposals

Article – Layoff. Seniority, Rehire

The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. The Union proposed language from SEIU 925 Libraries that when a layoff is required, the Employer may also consider position specific specialized skills, duties and/or responsibilities and employee specific specialized skills.

Article – Mandatory Subjects

The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 contract. The Union proposed an increase from 30 days to 60 days for the length of time the Union has to demand to bargain before the Employer could implement the proposed changes. SEIU 925- Continuum College Counter Proposals

Article- Hours of Work

In response to the Employer, the Union proposed to add new language around Continuum College specific work schedules. The Union also proposed new language around work outside the scope of their job classification, excessive workload, and inequitable distribution of work projects.

Article – Overtime

In response to the Employer, the Union proposed to add new language that overtime requests would be approved by the Employer through a standardized process established by HR and would be clearly communicated and accessible to all employees. The Union proposed that if an overtime-eligible employee requests compensatory time in lieu of overtime it would be approved. The Union proposed language that overtime exempt employees who have been directed to work an excessive amount of hours for an extended period of time, may be approved by Continuum Human Resources for overtime in the form of compensatory time or cash.

 

UW – Initial Proposals


Article – Duration

The Employer proposed a contract duration of three years with holds for the dates once they are agreed to.

Article – No Strike/Lockout

The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925  contract.

 

UW – Counter Proposals


Article – Union Activities, Rights, and Stewards

In response to the Union, the Employer proposed that all requests for information would clearly identify what information is being sought and include the reason for the request. Requests would not normally extend more than twenty-four (24) months prior to the date of the request.

 

Tentative Agreements

Article- Contract Distribution

The parties agreed to an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract.

Article- Privacy

The parties agreed to an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract.

Article – Subordination of Agreement and Savings Clause

The parties agreed to an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract.

Article – Tuition Exemption Program

The parties agreed to an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract.

Article – Union Membership, Dues Deduction, and Status Reports

The parties agreed to an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the 2025-2027 SEIU 925 contract. Edits were made to better align the rosters language with what is currently provided to the Union after each pay period.

Article – Health Care Benefits Amounts

The parties agreed to an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the 2025-2027 SEIU 925 contract. Edits were made to update the information to reflect the next biennium.

 

Next Steps

The next UW & SEIU Continuum College bargaining session is scheduled for June 17, 2025 and will be held virtually.
