UW – WSNA Northwest Negotiations Recap for April 14, 2025
This recap details the second session for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the UW and WSNA NW.
Union Initial Proposals
Article 5 – Employment Practices – The Union proposed to modify section 5.11.4 regarding Workplace Violence Prevention with additional language that would create a separate Workplace Violence Committee exclusively for UWMC-Northwest. Additionally, the Union proposed to increase the number of members appointed to the committee by WSNA from one (1) to three (3).
Article 7 – Hours of Work and Overtime – The Union proposed to create a new section of this article that would create a break relief nurse assignment. Under this proposal, a registered nurse would be assigned to be a break relief nurse for at least a 4-hour increment with the purpose of relieving employees from their patient assignments for their rest breaks and/or meal periods and would not receive permanent patient assignments. The proposal would require the Employer to assign an adequate number of nurses to provide break relief nurses.
Employer Initial Proposals
Realignment of Articles – The Employer proposed to realign the order of articles in the UW-WSNA NW CBA to more closely align with the order of articles in the UW-WSNA ML CBA.
Article 2 – Association Membership, Dues Deduction & Article 3 – Association Representatives– As part of the Employer’s proposal to realign articles in the UW-WSNA NW CBA, the Employer proposed to strike and move the contents of Article 3 – Association Representatives into Article 2. The Employer’s proposal includes updating the name of Article 2 to ‘Association Representatives, Dues Deduction, Activities.’ The Employer also added language outlining the process for submitting information requests through Labor Relations.
New Appendix XX – Union Rosters – As part of the Employer’s proposal to realign articles in the UW-WSNA NW CBA, the Employer proposed moving the section regarding bargaining unit rosters from Article 2 into a new appendix to align with the UW-WSNA ML contract, which has this information in a separate appendix.

The next UW and WSNA-NW bargaining session is scheduled for Thursday, April 15, 2025 and will be held in-person at UWMC Northwest Hospital.
