UW – Teamsters 117 Negotiations Recap for June 15

Background

This recap details the seventh virtual session for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement between the UW and Teamsters 117. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.

UW Counter Proposals

Voluntary overtime – In response to the Union, the Employer proposed language that would clarify when seniority would apply to voluntary overtime, stating that when voluntary overtime is scheduled more than 10 days in advance, the Employer would solicit volunteers and assign by Bargaining Unit Seniority. For voluntary overtime scheduled 10 days or fewer in advance, the Employer would solicit volunteers and assign on a first come first serve basis.

Fitness for duty – In response to the Union, the Employer proposed language stating that questions regarding fitness for duty would be referred to medical professionals using the University’s standard procedures, and that fitness for duty issues (other than minor temporary injuries) would be addressed in consultation with Human Resources personnel on an ongoing basis.

Underpayment – In response to the Union, the Employer proposed language stating that once a payroll underpayment is identified and confirmed, the Employer would correct any errors on the employee’s subsequent available pay period.

Teamsters Counter Proposals

Union training seminars – The Union proposed that Union Shop Stewards would be allowed a maximum of 64 hours within the life of the agreement, without loss of pay, to participate in Union training seminars, as an alternative to the 32 working hours per year allowed by the current contract.

The next UW and Teamsters 117 bargaining session is scheduled for June 23 and will be held virtually.
