UW – Teamsters 117 Negotiations Recap for June 10

Background

This recap details the sixth virtual session for the collective bargaining agreement between the UW and Teamsters 117. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.

Tentative Agreements

The parties signed tentative agreements to close the following provisions:

Article 17 – Discipline and Dismissal

  • Added an exception to records that may be removed from an employee file, for those related to sexual misconduct

Article 18 – Grievance Procedure

  • Housekeeping edits only

Article 19 – Employee Rights

  • Clarified that employees subject to internal investigation would be advised of who is in charge of the investigation, who will conduct the interview, and what initial policy violations have been alleged prior to the initial investigatory interview
  • Increased the time an employee has before being required to make a formal written or recorded statement in a deadly force incident from 48 to 72 hours

Article 24 – Severability

  • Clarified the process for when a law change renders any CBA provisions unlawful or invalid, stating that upon request, the parties would commence negotiations within 30 days for the purpose of coming to agreement on a substitute provision

Teamsters Counter Proposals

Employee Files – The Union proposed to reduce the length of time before Records of Suspension may be removed from an employee’s file from five years to four, and the length of time before Reprimands, corrective action counseling, and internal investigations may be removed from all departmental files from three years to two.
