UW – UWHA Negotiations Recap for April 29, 2020

Background

This recap details the thirtieth session and fourth virtual session for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement between the UW and UWHA. This was the tenth session to be facilitated by a State-appointed mediator. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.

Counter Proposals

Moonlighting – The Union presented a counter on moonlighting, but the parties remain apart regarding how much of the moonlighting policy should be codified within the CBA.

Sick Leave – In response to the Union, the Employer proposed to mirror ACGME requirements stating that residents must be given the opportunity to attend medical, mental health (including GME Wellness Service appointments), optical, and dental care appointments, including those scheduled during their working hours.

Union Activities – The parties continued to exchange proposals in an effort toward a shared understanding of contract language regarding use of state resources.

Committee Memberships – The parties continued to exchange proposals in an effort toward a shared understanding of contract language regarding voting privileges by a designee and/or substitute on a committee.

Next Steps

The next UW and UWHA bargaining session is scheduled for May 14.
