UW IHME & SEIU 925 Negotiations Recap for April 16, 2020

This recap details the second virtual session for the initial collective bargaining agreement between the UW IHME and SEIU 925. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.
Union Initial Proposals
General Wage Increases – The Union proposed a 4% across-the-board wage increase for all bargaining unit members on July 1, 2020. Any data professionals scheduled to receive a 4% increase before the end of the current fiscal year would receive that increase plus the July 1, 2020 ATB increase. This proposal was made under the assumption of a contract duration through June 30, 2021, and the parties remain in discussion on duration.
U-PASS – The Union proposed that all job classifications would receive a fully subsidized U-PASS effective June 30, 2020. Additionally, the Union proposed that U-PASS fees paid by employee’s from March through the duration of the Governor’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy Order would be reimbursed by the Employer.
Promotions & In-Grade Salary Adjustments – The Union proposed that the Employer would follow its recent practice of submitting promotions and in-grade salary increases for eligible employees, which would be reviewed by management and effective July 1, 2020. The Union proposed that the Employer communicate the promotion process details to employees, and allow the Union to provide input before such communication is distributed.
Career Pathways – The Union proposed that the parties would discuss new promotion pathways for employees who do not currently have such pathways. Additionally, the Employer would present its work to create such pathways to the Union by July 1, 2020.
Next Steps
The next UW IHME and SEIU 925 bargaining session is scheduled for April 22 and will be held virtually.
