UWMC Nurses Vote to Adopt Agency Fee Provision

In an online vote that took place from June 28, 2016 to July 7 2016, UWMC nurses voted to require newly hired nurses to become members of WSNA or to pay a representational fee to the union. Previously, UWMC nurses had the option to decline membership in WSNA. The vote, administered by the state’s Public Employment Relations Commission, changes the language in the contract on union representation. Nurses hired after the conclusion of the vote will choose whether to become members or to pay the representational fee. Nurses hired prior to the vote who already declined membership can remain non-members, or they can choose to start paying dues or representational fees. UWMC and WSNA are collaborating on the implementation of the new contract language.
