Negotiations Recap for February 8, 2016

This recap summarizes the 20th bargaining session between the UW and the UWHA to form the first union contract for UW medical and dental residents and fellows. This was the sixth session to be facilitated by a State-appointed mediator.

Union Proposals

Stipend Increases – UWHA proposed increases to the stipends of all residents and fellows, as follows:

  • Upon Ratification: 10 percent across-the-board increase.
  • Year 2: 6 percent across-the-board increase.
  • Year 3: 6 percent across-the-board increase.

Housing Supplement – UWHA proposed that each resident and fellow receive an additional $9,000 per year to assist with the cost of housing.

Childcare – UWHA proposed that UW contribute $900,000 per year to a childcare fund for residents and fellows.

Parking – UWHA maintained its proposal for all residents and fellows to have free parking at all training sites.

Next Steps

The next UW-UWHA bargaining mediation session is scheduled for February 22.
