Sexual misconduct disclosure & covered student employees

As departments consider making offers of employment-based funding to prospective graduate students and continue to make offers of employment not tied to admissions, this is a reminder that consistent with Washington state law and UW policy, final candidates for covered student employment must complete and sign a sexual misconduct declaration prior to their start of employment and the UW must conduct a sexual misconduct verification on a final candidate’s current and past Washington state postsecondary educational institutional employers.

UWHR and the Graduate School recommend that departments send declaration requests to prospective students likely to be offered admissions, as opposed to sending to all those who have applied. Additional process recommendations can be found at Sexual Misconduct Declaration-Covered Student Employment (MS Word).

When ready to initiate the process, department staff use the Sexual Misconduct Declaration Tool. The tool facilitates the collection of a prospective student employee’s sexual misconduct declaration, displays the status of the process, and contacts former employers for verification when applicable.
