UW Implements $15 Minimum Wage for Union-Represented Employees

UW has raised the minimum hourly wage to $15 for numerous union-represented employees across the University. In addition to hourly employees, these negotiated agreements cover employees who are paid a monthly rate and who receive benefits.

UW facilitated meetings with multiple unions during fall of 2015 in order to discuss proactive steps to ensure that UW’s compensation remains competitive amidst the City of Seattle minimum wage ordinance and the region’s rising cost of living.

UW designed a schedule that is more favorable to staff than the City of Seattle’s plan, with benefits-eligible employees reaching $15 a full year before what the ordinance provides. For hourly, non-benefits eligible UW employees, UW’s increases match the provisions of the City’s plan.
