UW & UAW Postdocs Negotiations Recap for December 7, 2022

Background

This recap details the sixth session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between the UW and UAW Postdocs. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.

UW Counter Proposals

Article 12- Intellectual Property and Academic Rights

The Employer countered the Union’s proposal to add Executive Order 61, Research Misconduct Policy, into the article in its entirety, adding a new section stating the grievance procedure of this agreement will only apply to Executive Order 36 and Executive Order 61 in the event of dismissal or discipline of Postdoctoral scholars as a result of a misapplication the policies.

UAW Counter Proposals

Article 12- Intellectual Property and Academic Rights

The Union rejected the Employer’s counter proposal to add the new section regarding the ability to only grieve dismissal/termination due to a misapplication of the policies and reasserted their initial proposal to add Executive Order 61, Research Misconduct Policy, into the article in its entirety.

Article 32- Wages

In response to the Employer, the Union proposed to change the pay table from:

1 (12 – 23 months) $ 54,144
2 (24-35 months) $ 54,540
3 (36- 47 months) $ 56,712
4 (48 – 59 months) $ 58,608
5 (60-71 months) $ 60,780

 

To a new pay table:

0 (0-11 months) $70,000
1 (12-23 months) $72,800
2 (24-35 months) $75,712
3 (36-47 months) $78,740
4 (48-59 months) $81,890
5 (60-71 months) $85,165

 

The Union also proposed that the new pay table would be increased by 7% annually. Additionally, the Union proposed that Postdocs who have salary above the experience level minimum, will receive a 4% increase on their anniversary date.

The next UW & UAW Postdocs bargaining session is scheduled for December 16, 2022 and will be held virtually.
