Background

This recap details the twenty seventh session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between SEIU 925-Continuum College and UW. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.

UW – Counter Proposals

Article: Hours of Work

In response to the Union, the Employer accepted Union proposal that an example of an alternative work schedule could be ten (10) hours per day for four (4) workdays in a seven (7)-day workweek. The Employer also accepted Union proposed language that would permit employees to have conversations with their supervisor when assigned work outside their job scope, when work is inequitably distributed, or when workloads are excessive.

Article: Classification and Reclassification

In response to the Union, the Employer accepted the Union’s strike-through regarding compliance with RCW 41.56.21 and reasserted the remainder of their proposal.

Article: Compensation, Wages and Other Pay Provisions

In response to the Union, the Employer proposed to update the effective dates of the salary increases to effective within ninety (90) days of ratification, on the first available pay period as determined by the Employer, February 1, 2027, and February 1, 2028, and to increase the across-the-board increase on February 1, 2028 from one percent (1%) to one and a half percent (1.5%).

Tentative Agreements

Side Letter: Code of Professional Conduct

The parties tentatively agreed to a side letter that the Employer would develop an Executive Order (EO) on Code of Professional Conduct. The goal is that if the Employer implements the executive order, the Employer will satisfy its collective bargaining obligations by providing the Union notice and opportunity to bargain.
