CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Within Continuum College, consult with subject matter experts on the design, development, and teaching of university or professional education content.
BASIC FUNCTION
Collaborate with faculty and cross-functional teams to design and develop engaging, accessible courses that align with learning outcomes and program goals, incorporating advanced knowledge of best practices in instructional design, accessibility, and active learning. Support project management, faculty development, and institutional initiatives by providing pedagogical consultation and contributing expertise to strategic teaching and learning efforts.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under limited supervision, complete increasingly complex assigned tasks and projects, including making independent decisions about methods for creating and displaying course content. Know and effectively use instructional design expertise to collaboratively solve unusual or difficult problems and select techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work.
TYPICAL WORK
Partner with faculty members, program managers, and cross-functional teams to co-create high-quality, learner-centered courses that align with academic and institutional goals.
Facilitate the development of clear, measurable learning outcomes that guide course structure, content development, and assessment strategies.
Design engaging learning activities that promote active learning, including the creation of instructional text, simple graphics, tables, and other visual aids.
Structure and publish course content within the learning management system, ensuring accessibility, usability, and alignment with instructional design best practices.
Work closely with assigned project managers to establish timelines, track progress, and ensure that course development milestones are met on schedule.
Ensure all course components are delivered with high quality and within established deadlines, contributing to a smooth and efficient production process.
Provide guidance to faculty on a variety of content development tools and formats, helping to select the most effective methods for delivering the subject matter.
Provide direction and insight on pedagogical strategies, including active learning, inclusive practices, and the integration of digital tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
Serve on committees, task forces and other initiatives at Continuum College or university-wide level, contributing instructional design expertise to broader strategic goals and innovations in teaching and learning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in a related field and one year of relevant experience
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION
Continuing Education: Individuals that have responsibility for administrative, operational and/or educational components of extension or continuing education activities or programs.
