CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Within the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), apply scientific knowledge to conduct research, analysis and evaluation of health data and health data sources, for the purpose of providing policymakers, donors, researchers and other stakeholders with quantitative evidence based hypotheses to make decisions that achieve better health for populations around the world.
BASIC FUNCTION
Develop and apply IHME research methodologies to analyze, evaluate and quantify health data from around the world, and develop estimations of the comparative magnitude of health loss due to disease, injury, age, sex, geographic location, wealth, and other risk factors.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, perform assigned tasks requiring the application of standard IHME research procedures and techniques; run and enhance existing models, seek out, extract and clean data; primarily rely on general instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. May also develop, revise or make recommendation to change research protocols, health data sources and research methodologies.
TYPICAL WORK
Conduct scientific research, analysis and evaluation of health data and health data sources;
Develop technical estimations of disease pathways based on analysis of health data;
Evaluate and improve estimates of disease pathways, injuries and/or risk factors using IHME research methods;
Develop, test and implement new computational and statistical methods to improve research protocols and methods;
Document computational code and analytic approach used is compliance with IHME requirements
Assist in the design of specific phases of research projects, researches approaches and hypotheses;
Assist with research methodology development, in whole or for specific phases of the research project;
Keep accurate and organized record of all computational code and analytic approaches used during phase of the research project;
Evaluates research data to establish significance to the problem(s) being studied, and may develop new hypotheses and questions from the results;
Format, transform, review and assess health data sources to determine their relevance and utility for ongoing analysis;
Refine survey questionnaires and programming them field tools;
Conduct human subject interviews, maintain interview records, safeguard PII and PHI according to state and federal standards;
Contribute to creation of presentations, manuscripts, and funding proposals;
Participate in meetings to discuss research plans, progress, changes to research protocol and results of research findings, with team members, supervisors, IHME administrators and external stakeholders;
May make or recommend adaptations and modifications to research project or process design;
May provide guidance and training to other staff working on the research project; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, math, economics, quantitative social sciences or related and one year of related work experience

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
