CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Within Continuum College, oversee curriculum development and teaching of extension or continuing education training/course materials and/or programs. May also oversee administrative, operational and/or educational components of online, extension, continuing education, or fee-based programs.
If the primary focus is to coordinate continuing education programs, focusing on the operational aspects, then a Continuing Education Coordinator job profile may be more appropriate.
BASIC FUNCTION
Lead the strategic planning, development, and management of a diverse portfolio of non-credit educational programs, ensuring financial sustainability, instructional quality, and alignment with institutional goals. Oversee cross-functional initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and inclusive practices while mentoring staff, supporting student success, and driving innovation in curriculum design and program operations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Independently manage all aspects of portfolio programs including recruiting, working with advisory boards to ensure program curricula and format are closely aligned to market demand, ensuring the program meets academic quality targets, and program budget management and oversight.
TYPICAL WORK
Strategically design, manage, and evaluate a diverse portfolio of non-credit educational programs across multiple formats, such as classroom, online, or hybrid.
Conduct strategic planning and curriculum updates in collaboration with advisory boards, instructors, and staff.
Analyze market trends, student feedback, and performance data to improve or sunset underperforming programs.
Lead large-scale programs and manage entire program lines, such as Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and Youth & Teen Programs.
Oversee program budgets, forecasts, and compensation structures.
Oversee program revenue and ensure alignment with financial models and institutional goals.
Independently determine compensation for unique program circumstances.
Lead the development of new programs and program lines, including customized offerings for external partners.
Regularly launch new growth initiatives.
Oversee curriculum revision projects involving cross-functional and external stakeholders.
Recruit, hire, train, and manage instructors and instructional staff.
Develop training materials for large or specialized programs.
Mentor staff as needed.
Build and maintain relationships with advisory boards, subject matter experts, and external partners.
Represent the program in professional communities and manage joint program agreements.
Collaborate cross-functionally to support program logistics, promotion, and student experience enhancements.
Lead workshops and serve as a resource on curriculum design and adult learning best practices.
Collaborate with instructional design teams to enhance teaching quality and learner engagement.
Act as the internal and external authority on assigned programs.
Stay current with trends in professional and continuing education.
Collaborate across departments to support strategic initiatives and recognize team contributions.
Lead student information sessions and manage escalated student concerns.
Serve as a key contact for complex student issues and support services.
Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve program models and operational processes.
Document and share successful practices for institutional use.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure sustainable improvements.
Actively support diversity, equity, and inclusion by promoting representation, sharing resources, and applying inclusive practices.
Serve as a resource on accessible and inclusive learning environments.
Lead initiatives to integrate universal design and cultural inclusivity across programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION
Continuing Education: Individuals that have responsibility for administrative, operational and/or educational components of extension or continuing education activities or programs.
