CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within Continuum College, oversee curriculum development and teaching of extension or continuing education training/course materials and/or programs. May also oversee administrative, operational and/or educational components of online, extension, continuing education, or fee-based programs.

If the primary focus is to coordinate continuing education programs, focusing on the operational aspects, then a Continuing Education Coordinator job profile may be more appropriate.

BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for the strategic design, implementation, and evaluation of a diverse portfolio of non-credit educational programs, ensuring financial sustainability, instructional quality, and alignment with institutional goals. Develop stakeholder relationships, support student engagement, and contribute to organizational initiatives through leadership, innovation, and inclusive practices.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under limited supervision, independently stage, maintain, and provide quality assurance for education courses in a variety of modalities across the Continuum College portfolio. Assist in the development of new courses and training materials in partnership with instructors and learning designers.

TYPICAL WORK

Design, implement, and evaluate a diverse portfolio of non-credit educational programs across multiple formats, such as classroom, online, or hybrid.

Conduct strategic planning and continuous improvement based on market trends, stakeholder input, and performance data.

Determine optimal program types and formats to meet learning objectives and maximize enrollment.

Develop and manage program budgets, forecasts, and compensation structures.

Ensure financial sustainability and alignment with Continuum College objectives.

Develop and apply knowledge of higher education financial models and revenue streams.

Regularly lead new programs or growth initiatives.

Oversee curriculum revisions and expansion of existing offerings to meet evolving market demands.

Contribute innovative ideas and work with subject matter experts to support new program development.

Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate instructors and instructional staff.

Provide onboarding and ongoing support in collaboration with the learning experience staff.

Customize training materials as needed to support program-specific needs.

Build and maintain relationships with advisory boards, subject matter experts, and professional communities.

Collaborate cross-functionally to support program logistics, promotion, and student experience enhancements.

Apply best practices in adult education, curriculum design, and learning technologies.

Maintain subject matter expertise and stay current with trends in professional and continuing education.

Address student and instructor concerns, escalating when necessary.

Lead information sessions and manage escalated student inquiries.

Participate in committees or workgroups to enhance processes and programming.

Actively support diversity, equity, and inclusion by promoting representation, sharing resources, and applying inclusive practices.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in a related field and one year of relevant experience

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION

Continuing Education: Individuals that have responsibility for administrative, operational and/or educational components of extension or continuing education activities or programs.
