Academic Counselor

Job Summary:
An entry-level professional position responsible for the application of individual judgment in providing long-range academic counseling to students as to major courses of study and career possibilities. Advise students in the areas of academic planning, interpretation of department, college and university requirements, degree requirements, career exploration and other related matters. Act as a liaison to central university counseling services (e.g., centers for career services, minority affairs) for student referrals, student records, etc. Counsel non-students about possible admission to university programs, provide academic planning advice before transferring to the university. Evaluate applicants for admission to schools or to specific courses of study and counsel students regarding eligibility and procedures for reinstatement. Work with other counselors in the development of advising materials and/or counseling resources for students.

Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of student counseling, teaching or related experience. Master’s degree in counseling or related field preferred. These positions are found in individual academic departments, college dean’s offices, or other central academic advising offices.

Academic Counselor – Lead

Job Summary:
A lead position responsible for organizing and implementing academic advising projects and activities and either managing a group of professional academic counselors or functioning as a chief provider of academic counseling, advising or related activities for graduate and/or undergraduate students in a department, college or school. Provides leadership at workshops or university-wide projects focused on academic services. Manages advising activities for a department, college or school or assumes primary leadership for academic counseling services such as pre-major advising, undeclared student advising, transfer student advising, liaison work with community colleges, student petition reviews, etc. Counsels and advises students in the areas of academic planning, interpretation of department, college and university requirements, degree requirements, career exploration and other matters. Assumes primary responsibility for other activities such as faculty advisor training and liaison work, new student orientation activities, student publications, liaison work with other student departments, etc. Recommends changes in university policies and procedures relating to advising when appropriate. Regularly liaison with selected colleges and/or departments to keep abreast of changes or additions to academic programs or policies. Shares knowledge with other advisors.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree required in counseling, student personnel, or related field. Four years advising and counseling experience, preferable in higher education. Teaching experience desirable.

Counseling Services Coordinator

Provides counseling services and administrative leadership for a unique counseling project or program (e.g., students with disabilities, at-risk youth initiative). Requires the application of a broad range of independent judgment to non-routine matters having a significant effect on project direction, coordination, planning, design and management. Oversees all administrative aspects of the program including budget development, office and computer resources, records management, etc. Serves as a career liaison between employers, the university and the community. Creates assessment tools and evaluate program initiatives. May supervise staff, students, interns and volunteers. Develops and conducts workshops in area of expertise (e.g., summer programs, conference presentation, exhibits etc.). Counsels students and alumni in career planning and development. Writes and disseminates material to assist students in making informed decisions and/ or explain university policies and procedures.

Education Outreach – Program Manager

Job Summary:
Responsible for planning and developing continuing education programs. Coordinates the initiation, planning, design, management and evaluation of an annual program of university level credit and non-credit courses, workshops, certificate programs, seminars and special events. Works with academic units on campus and professionals in the community to develop courses for the adult learner. Evaluates course offerings proposed by others; identifies prospective instructors, ensures course offerings meet the needs of target audiences. Administers ongoing programs and ensures quality. Designs and administers program evaluation instruments. Develops annual promotional and marketing plans in conjunction with the marketing staff. Writes course catalog copy. Facilitates meetings and leads advisory boards within the community. Develops a budget of $300,000 to $700,000 in a self-sustaining organization.

Qualifications:
Requires a Master’s degree with four years related work experience plus excellent written and oral communication skills. A Ph.D. with two years related work is preferred. JD, MPA and MBA degrees are given preference at the Master’s level

Mental Health Therapist – Student Healthcare Center

Qualifications:
Masters of Social Work or Masters of Arts in Counseling and three to five years recent experience in the direct provision of psychotherapy and Washington State Licensed Social worker (Independent Clinical Active) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Cross cultural background and experience is desired; experience in a collaborative care model of primary care mental health treatment; e-mail and with EMR experience. Experience in a college mental health facility is highly desirable but nor required. Ability to speak Spanish is also desirable.
