Mason Trade Trainee

DEFINITION

Perform semi-skilled work of graduated complexity pertinent to the mason journey class under “training” in the college or university’s building maintenance and alterations program.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class are distinguished by assignment as a trade trainee for the mason journey class receiving on-the-job and academic training to achieve journey status.

TYPICAL WORK

Under guidance of a journeyworker, perform various maintenance and alternation duties, with special emphasis on those duties required to complete the specific on-the-job mason trades training program;

Obtain, prepare, and deliver materials on the job site and assist in assembly and installation;

Clean up and maintain shop areas, work sites, and storage areas;

Complete on-the-job mason trades training program requirements;

Complete related academic training which will consist of designated trades schools and/or correspondence courses as available and applicable to the mason journey class;

Perform related duties and functions as specified in approved trades training program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified

High school graduation or equivalent; or 6 months’ experience as a maintenance aide, or equivalent. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.

Examination Requirements:

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
