BASIC FUNCTION

Lead Clinical Laboratory Technicians and assigned staff. Provide laboratory information regarding department policies and testing services, perform administrative functions in support of laboratory services and perform semi-technical lab support.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others. Perform the work of Clinical Laboratory Technicians and may contribute to the development and evaluation of new laboratory processes and procedures. Must lead at least 1.0 FTE (or an equivalent combination of part-time positions) of subordinates at least at the Clinical Laboratory Tech 1 level.

TYPICAL WORK

Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of assigned staff; provide input to the supervisor and/or manager on employee performance;

May participate in the interview process for new staff; participate in new employee orientation and training;

Assist with solving daily issues, such as equipment problems and staff assignments;

May Perform quality control tests; adjust and perform minor maintenance on equipment; review and report the daily operational status of equipment, initiate repair service calls, and document malfunctions;

Assist with inventory and order supplies;

Perform the work of a Clinical Laboratory Technician I and II;

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience

OR

equivalent education/experience.
