CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Serve as an announcer for on-air and digital content.

This is a single-class series.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide local announcements and operate broadcast console during assigned live and automated radio and internet streaming shifts.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Work under direct supervision to serve as announcer and board operator for assigned shift. Produce, plan, write, edit and voice both live and automated content during assigned shift. Provide voice work and production for underwriting and promotional spots. Monitor internal systems, KUOW communications, and newswires to deliver programming updates.

TYPICAL WORK

Serve as the primary announcer and board operator during assigned shift.

Produce, plan, write, edit and voice both live and automated break content.

Provide voice and production of underwriting spots.

Operate broadcast and satellite distribution software in conjunction with broadcast playback and automation software and systems.

Provide production support of fundraising and marketing audio as assigned.

Relay emergency alerts and regular tests as scheduled.

Work with showrunners and producers during live broadcasts featuring hosts and multiple on-air guests.

Back up other shifts as needed.

Perform other occasional on-air work including on-air fundraising.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience including audio production and announcing.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION

Public Information: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for planning and directing the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the institution’s programs, accomplishments, and point of view. Individuals exercise discretion in determining content of written copy. Other duties may include creating ideas, laying out artwork, contacting media representatives, and representing the institution directly before the general public.
