CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within Continuum College, independently lead the operations of a specific functional unit. Responsible for supervising staff, managing complex workflows, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, and applying subject matter expertise in a distinct operational domain.

If the primary focus is to oversee multiple functional areas or operational domains, then a Program Operations Associate Director job profile may be more appropriate.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide day-to-day management of a specific operational unit. Provide administrative oversight, manage budgets, ensure compliance with university and external regulations, serve as the unit’s subject matter expert, and supervise staff. Utilize specialized knowledge of the functional unit and possess delegated decision-making authority to allocate resources and establish policies, methods, procedures, and work rules for the unit.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under limited supervision, manage the administration of a distinct operational function with significant impact across Continuum College and serve as the primary liaison with both internal and external stakeholders. Exercise independent judgment in interpreting policies and making operational decisions. Lead process improvements. In contrast to higher-level administrative leadership roles, this job profile maintains a narrower functional focus within a specific domain.

TYPICAL WORK

Direct and control the strategic goals and day-to-day management of a specific operational unit within Continuum College.

Perform professional-level administration and management of a non-routine nature requiring independent judgment and decision making.

Develop and implement operational policies, methods, procedures, and work rules.

Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.

Develop and lead process improvements by evaluating tools, workflows, and best practices.

Monitor and manage budgets.

Represent the unit on committees and in cross-departmental initiatives.

May supervise, train, and evaluate staff, managing performance and determining staffing needs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of relevant experience.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION

Program Direction/Control: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for directing or controlling program operations and who are accountable for the allocation of resources and program results.
