Dig into the Urban Gardening Lunch & Learn

Calling all green thumbs—and aspiring green thumbs! You are invited to join UW Combined Fund Drive for our virtual Urban Gardening Lunch & Learn on May 22 from noon to 1 p.m.

The session will highlight leading local organizations that educate and advocate for folks to cultivate vegetable and floral gardens in yards, on balconies and decks and in community gardens.

Learn about the Tilth Alliance, which collaborates with Washington farmers, gardeners and eaters to create a sustainable, healthy and equitable food future. You’ll also hear from the Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS), a dynamic grassroots organization that brings together individuals who share a common interest in Washington’s unique flora. Together, they will share information about their respective organizations and insights on urban gardening.

Meet the experts:

Denise Mahnke, an ardent advocate for native plants, serves as the executive director of the Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS). With her unwavering commitment to conservation and education, she has played a pivotal role in promoting the value of Washington’s unique and diverse flora.

Jenny Gallucci, a versatile member of the Tilth Alliance, wears many hats within the organization’s development team. She adeptly handles volunteer management, event planning, donor relations and database management. Originally from the Atlanta area, Jenny brings fresh perspectives to Seattle, nurturing connections and driving positive change in the sustainable food movement.

Chris Hoffer, who joined the Tilth Alliance in 2014, supports the Community Education team, which builds community through a variety of programs: classes for adults; senior wellness and nutrition education; environmental stewardship; community learning gardens and orchards; and partnerships with community-based organizations.
