UWCFD raises nearly $2 million to support nonprofits

In autumn 2022, UW staff, faculty and retirees came together to contribute nearly $2 million to hundreds of nonprofit organizations through the UW Combined Fund Drive’s Do Good, Feel Good campaign.

“I am so impressed by the creativity our employee volunteers bring to the campaign. It inspires such incredible generosity on the part of UW employees and retirees,” said Jolyn Mason, campaign manager for the UW Combined Fund Drive.

Coming in at a total donation amount of $1,975,067.87, the campaign has held pace with donation totals for the last three years.

“It is so exciting to see the UW community come together to make the world a better place,” Mason said.

The UW Combined Fund Drive partners with a featured nonprofit each year. This year’s featured organization was Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Guided by medical ethics and principles of impartiality, MSF serves victims of war, disease and natural disasters without regard to race, nationality, gender, religion, or political affiliation.

“We were pleased to partner with MSF this year to help their medical teams address international emergencies, respond to internal conflict situations and assist in the wake of environmental disasters,” said Mason.

“I am so heartened by the UW community’s generosity,” she continued. “Collectively, UW employees contributed more than $61,000 for MSF.”

Campaign highlight: UWCFD donor wins $2,000 to donate to nonprofit

The UWCFD is part of a statewide fundraising campaign that dates to 1984. Since then, the UW community has contributed nearly $60 million to local and international nonprofits, including dozens of UW funds supporting students, faculty research and programs. Throughout the year, the UWCFD partners with other UW programs to assist with philanthropic or volunteer initiatives.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with The Whole U this year to fundraise for the UW food pantries as part of their Dare to Be 2023 challenge,” Mason said. “So far, we have raised more than $8,000 through that initiative.”

Mason continued, “Time and again we see the UW community’s commitment to helping one another during times of need.”
