Fee Based Assignment
Fee Based Assignments – Civil Service Exempt (job profile 11861) positions are exempt from civil service in accordance with the provisions of RCW 41.06.070 because they meet one of the legislatively authorized exemption criteria. Whether a position is fee based is determined by the process of elimination. If no other staff job profile fits the description of work, and the work is not based on how many hours it takes to complete the work, then a fee-based assignment may be appropriate.
Individuals in Fee Based Assignments are paid via the fee-based assignment one-time payment reason code. These positions may be up to twelve months in duration and may be extended upon approval from the Compensation Office.
Benefits and time off eligibility
Fee Based Assignments do not receive employer-provided insurance coverage and are not time off eligible.
Creating and filling the position
Human Resources coordinates all Fee Based Assignments unless otherwise authorized by the Vice President for Human Resources. An employing unit is not able to make a Fee Based Assignment without creating a position and requisition in Workday and filling the position through UWHIRES. Fee Based Assignments are subject to criminal conviction history background checks and sexual misconduct checks.
Notification
Fee Based Assignments must be notified in writing of the conditions and duration of their assignment.
