UW & SEIU 925 Advisers Negotiations Recap for August 4, 2026

Background

This recap details the tenth session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Washington and SEIU 925-Advisers. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.

 

Tentative Agreements

Article XX: Joint Union Management Committee

The Parties tentatively agreed to an article that is identical to the same titled article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract with minor housekeeping edits.

 

SEIU 925 Advisers – Initial Proposals

Article XX: Affirmative Action

The Union proposed an article that is identical to the same titled article in the SEIU 925 – Libraries contract.

Article XX: Hiring and Contracting

The Union proposed an article including hiring related provisions largely influenced by various online content regarding UWHR’s best practices around topics like training and hiring, position descriptions, recruitment process, application review and interviewing, fair pre-employment inquiry, onboarding, vacancy notification, etc.

The Union proposed language stating that the Employer may not skim bargaining unit work to employees outside of the bargaining unit or outside the Employer, and contracted employees will not fulfill core advising duties. The Union proposed that Student employees may assist with, but not replace, the work or positions of bargaining unit employees.

Article XX: Intellectual Freedom and Advocacy

The Union proposed an article with similar components to Article 61 of the SEIU 925 – Libraries contract with a new proposed section on advocacy. The Union proposed that Advising staff supporting students’ and colleagues’ lawful exercise of their constitutionally protected freedom of association, assembly, and expression, including participation in political activities, would not be a violation of duties to the University, and would not result in disciplinary action or adverse evaluation of the employee.

The next UW & SEIU 925-Advisers bargaining session has not yet been scheduled.
