CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the Institute for Health Metrics (IHME), support information technology operations in one or more areas such as but not limited to, datacenter infrastructure, health database development or administration, web applications and tools, and front-end application development or administration, and engineering.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide technical expertise in one or more areas of computing and engineering technology, requiring a broad knowledge of hardware and software technologies, along with an ability to communicate on technical subjects effectively with technical and non-technical IHME staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, design, write, and debug complex software programs and applications, develop and maintain web applications, database applications, and/or application software, and associated hardware and tools. Integrate complex systems and application technologies into reliable and effective systems for achieving IHME’s technical research and administrative goals.

TYPICAL WORK

Perform one or more computer system related activities such as programming, systems analysis, database development, complex report development, system security management or application development to meet the population health metrics collection and analysis needs of IHME;

Troubleshoot problems with code, software, and/or connectivity, provide initial diagnosis of problems and resolve problems on new and existing systems;

Provide detailed requirements analysis and recommendations for computing environment, system software and hardware acquisitions, and/or upgrades;

Develop, maintain, and evaluate technical operating systems documentation, processes, systems changes and/or web information and delivery systems user guides and documentation in accordance with IHME internal standards;

Design, install, configure, and support server, desktop, and database configurations to meet IHME research needs;

Test, monitor, and optimize systems and code and assist with the development of test plans for usability, performance, and adherence to IHME internal standards;

Develop integrated tools and diagnostics into complex computational processes;

Refactor existing code to improve efficiency, operability, and performance;

Manage and test backup and recovery plans;

Control access permissions and privileges;

Perform technical evaluation, installation, maintenance, and support of computer systems software;

Enforce data validation and business rules in support of data integrity and computing systems reliability; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics or related and two years of related experience

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.

CLASS SERVICE EXEMPTION

Senior Computer Systems and Network Programming.
